Proc.us Media Hub

Watch the Family Movies

This guide helps family members connect to the shared movie and show library from a phone, tablet, or computer. The server is already running; you only need private access and the Jellyfin app.

You do not need a proc.us email. Use your own personal email address. Do not share an account with someone else.

Ask for access first

Two people are involved: the server owner sends a private invitation, and you accept it. Sharing the server is required — the connection will not work until it is done.

Server owner

  1. Open the Tailscale Admin Console and go to Machines.
  2. Find the Jellyfin movie server in the list.
  3. Open its three-dot menu and choose Share, then Share by email.
  4. Enter the family member’s personal email address and send the invitation.

Family member

  1. Open the invitation email.
  2. Create a free personal Tailscale account, or sign in to the one you already have.
  3. Accept the shared server.

Accepting grants access only to the shared Jellyfin server — not to the owner’s other devices.

After you receive the invitation

  • An accepted Tailscale share for the movie server, using your own personal email.
  • Your own Jellyfin username and password, supplied by the server owner.
  • The Tailscale and Jellyfin apps installed on the device you want to watch on.

Set up your phone, tablet, or computer

iPhone, Android, tablets, and computers all use the same basic steps.

  1. Install the Tailscale app and sign in with the personal account that accepted the invitation. Approve the VPN permission if the device asks for it.
  2. Make sure Tailscale says Connected before moving on.
  3. Install the Jellyfin app (or open Jellyfin in a browser).
  4. Choose Add Server.
  5. Enter the Movie server address: http://100.84.37.6:8096. This address only works after the Tailscale invitation has been accepted and Tailscale says Connected.
  6. Sign in to Jellyfin with the username and password the owner gave you.
Open the movies

This opens only after Tailscale is connected and the server has been shared with you.

What happens next

Films and shows appear automatically if the owner granted your Jellyfin user access to the library. You do not need to scan media, add folders, or open the Dashboard. Just pick something and press play.

If it does not work

  • Confirm you accepted the emailed Tailscale share for the movie server.
  • Tailscale must show Connected on both the viewer device and the server.
  • The server must be awake, not asleep or powered off.
  • Check the address carefully: it must be exactly http://100.84.37.6:8096.
  • If you can log in but the library looks empty, ask the server owner to grant your Jellyfin user access to the movie and show libraries.

For the person running the server

Server owner only — not for every viewer

  • To give a new family member access, share this one server by email in Tailscale; do not give them your own Tailscale login.
  • Leave the server awake while people may want to watch.
  • Make sure Tailscale starts automatically when the server boots.
  • Do not expose router ports for this setup.
  • If the server also uses a different full-device VPN, test with that VPN enabled. If it prevents Tailscale from connecting, use that VPN provider’s split-tunneling, app-exception, or bypass feature to exclude the Tailscale app or service, while leaving other applications on the VPN.
